1: Overview
CATI paradata refers to the rich set of operational data generated as interviewers work through telephone surveys, not the survey responses themselves, but the metadata about how interviews are conducted. This includes details such as call attempts, call outcomes, timestamps, interview duration, interviewer activity (including sessions and breaks), dispositions, and productivity metrics. By making this paradata available to be synced to SmartHub, users gain access to the same underlying data that powers the out-of-the-box CATI productivity reports. This means teams can go beyond standard reporting to build bespoke dashboards and analyses using Studio.
2: Availability and Prerequisites
The functionality to synchronise Call History data to SmartHub is currently in Limited Availability which means that it will be enabled for individual customers who wish to be early adopters of the functionality (before it is made available to all customers under general release).
Only users with either of the permissions below will be able to set up a SmartHub data synchronisation.
SYSTEM_CATI_SUPERVISOR_ADMIN
or
SYSTEM_ADMINISTRATE
If the functionality is enabled and the user has the necessary permission they should see the ‘Manage call history in SmartHub’ option in the Admin menu…
3: Manage Call History in SmartHub
If no hub has been enabled for data yet then the UI will look like the screenshot below.
Press the ADD HUB button to select a hub to use. This could either be an existing hub or a new hub could be created in SmartHub before adding it.
4: Select Data to Synchronize
There are three types of data that can be synchronised to the hub. By default, all three types are enabled for synchronisation.
-
Sessions: Provides information about interviewer sessions (start time, end time duration and type login or break etc.) - Sessions: Provides information about interviewer sessions (login time, logout time, dial type, interviewer name etc.)
It is recommended that you have Sessions enabled as it provides Interviewer information to other types of data. Breaks: Provides information about interviewer breaks
Call history: Provides information about all historical call attempts (survey, interview ID. Interviewer, telephone number, date/time, extended status etc.)
Select Surveys to Sync
Sync with all surveys in CATI: Data for ALL CATI surveys will be synchronised to the hub
Sync with only surveys that are added to the Hub: Restricts the scope of data to be synced to only the surveys added to the Hub
Press the ADD HUB button to create the hub synchronisation with the selected settings.
The synchronisation task will be added to the list. Here you can review the settings of the synchronisation tasks and its current synchronisation status.
Note that ‘Data retention period’ indicates how long the synchronised data will remain in the hub (this is not user configurable). Syncing should begin shortly after the task is created (you can check the status of the ‘Cati call history Hub Loader’ task in the task management system).
There are three available action buttons…
1. Edit Hub Synchronization Settings
2. Open hub in SmartHub
3. Remove hub from synchronization process

5: Creating a Report in Studio
Experience in working with Studio is recommended and this can be gained through our instructor led or online training courses and online user documentation. The instructions provided here are just to help get started in creating a simple report which will be similar to the ‘Interviewer Productivity’ report provided in the Supervisor UI.
The first step is to open Studio and then click on the NEW REPORT button, then enter a name for the report and select the hub that the CATI call history data is being synchronized with.
At the next step, select the CATI sub-tab under Data Sources to reveal the CatiCallHistory data source. Drag this to the Selected pane (or check the tick-box and click on the Add button). Then click on the CREATE REPORT button.
The CATI call history tables of the data source can be expanded to show the available fields that can be reported on.
Surveys fields will have information about surveys that were used to gather call attempts information from.
